Our Process

How We Test Every MacBook

Every MacBook we sell passes a 10-step inspection before it gets photographed, listed, or shipped. No exceptions. This is what we check — and why each step matters.

01
Most Important

Activation Lock Check

We boot every unit to confirm it reaches the standard macOS setup screen — not an Apple ID login prompt. A MacBook locked to someone else's iCloud is unusable without their password. We verify this is fully cleared before the unit is ever listed. The device must complete a full restart and reach the language selection screen to pass.

02
Always Disclosed

Battery Health

We check battery health via System Settings → Battery → Battery Health and record the exact percentage and cycle count. We do not sell units below 80% battery health without explicit disclosure. The number listed in our inventory is the actual battery health — not an estimate, not a range. We also verify Optimized Battery Charging is available (confirms iCloud sign-out is complete).

03

Every Key on the Keyboard

We open a text editor and press every key on the keyboard — all letters, numbers, punctuation, function keys, and the Touch ID button. We're looking for keys that don't register, stick, feel different, or show excessive fading. Any keyboard issue is either fixed before listing or disclosed clearly in the condition notes.

04

Display Inspection

We check the display at full brightness with a solid white image (for dead pixels and backlight uniformity) and a solid black image (for backlight bleed). We look for any yellow tint, uneven brightness, pressure marks from objects pressing on the closed lid, and any physical damage to the glass. Any display flaw is photographed and documented. No undisclosed screen damage ships.

05

All Ports

We plug a USB-C cable into each port and verify it clicks in firmly with no wobble or resistance. A bent or damaged port is one of the most common undisclosed issues in used MacBook listings — we check each one individually. On models with a headphone jack, we plug in earbuds and verify both audio channels produce clean sound.

06

Webcam and Microphone

We open Photo Booth or FaceTime to verify the webcam image is clean and focused. We record a voice memo and play it back to confirm the built-in microphone is working. Webcam and mic failures are uncommon on MacBooks but do occur — particularly on older Intel units.

07

Speakers

We play audio through the built-in speakers and confirm both left and right channels produce sound without crackling, distortion, or one-sided output. Speaker failures can result from a hard drop or liquid ingress that wasn't disclosed by the original owner — we verify both channels before listing.

08

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

We connect to a Wi-Fi network and verify the wireless card is functioning normally. We pair a Bluetooth device to confirm Bluetooth connectivity. Wi-Fi antenna issues are rare but occur on units that have been opened and improperly reassembled. A MacBook with a bad Wi-Fi card is essentially unusable on modern networks — we verify this before listing.

09
Takes 45–60 Minutes

iCloud Sign-Out + Fresh macOS Install

We sign the unit out of the previous owner's Apple ID completely — not just deleting their user account, but fully removing the device from their iCloud. Then we perform a full erase and fresh macOS install. The MacBook you receive is clean: no previous owner's files, apps, or data. You set it up as new when you turn it on. We verify the unit is fully removed from any prior Apple ID before shipping.

10
No Stock Photos

Real Photos of the Actual Unit

We photograph the exact unit — top lid, bottom case, keyboard, open display, both ports, and the battery health screen showing the actual percentage. Any cosmetic flaws (scratches, scuffs, dings) get a close-up photo. The photos in our listing are the MacBook you receive. Not a representative example. Not stock imagery. The actual machine.
