Where to Buy a MacBook for College in Dallas–Fort Worth
DFW has millions of people and plenty of options for buying a MacBook before move-in day. This is a straight guide — where to look, what to pay, and how to avoid the most common pitfalls when buying used in the metro area.
DFW Schools — Who Needs This Guide
This guide is for students heading to any DFW-area college or university, or Texas schools that ship from DFW. That includes:
- UT Dallas (Richardson)
- UNT (Denton)
- TCU (Fort Worth)
- SMU (Dallas)
- Collin College (McKinney, Frisco, Allen)
- Dallas College (multiple campuses)
- Texas Woman's University (Denton)
- Students going out-of-state who need it shipped before they leave
If you're heading to UT Austin, A&M, TTU, or any other Texas school, we ship there too — same 1–2 day timeline from Dallas.
Your Options in DFW
Apple Stores in DFW
Apple has stores in NorthPark Center (Dallas), Stonebriar Centre (Frisco), and Willow Bend (Plano). They sell new MacBooks starting at $999 for the MacBook Air M2. If you buy new, you can apply for a student discount through the Apple Education Store — typically saves $50–$100.
For used MacBooks, Apple stores sell Certified Refurbished units online only (not in-store). In-store, the only "used" options are occasional open-box returns, which the store may not advertise.
Best Buy Open-Box
Best Buy locations in DFW (Frisco, Plano, McKinney, Lewisville, etc.) sometimes carry open-box MacBooks. These are customer returns, usually in excellent condition, often with the original packaging. Discounts are typically 10–20% off retail — so a MacBook Air M2 might be $799 instead of $999. That's a real savings but still far from the used market price.
Facebook Marketplace — DFW Listings
Facebook Marketplace in DFW has hundreds of MacBook listings at any time. Prices vary widely and so does quality. The same MacBook Air M1 can be listed anywhere from $350 to $599 depending on the seller's knowledge of pricing and how long it's been listed.
The risk: no vetting, no accountability, and a lot of listings with photos taken in bad lighting that hide screen damage, keyboard wear, and low battery health. You need to know what to inspect.
